What braces actually do
Braces straighten and align teeth by applying steady, controlled pressure over time, closing gaps, correcting crowding, and fixing bite problems such as an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. At Dr MeiLuk by L&M Dental Clinic, we offer self-ligating braces only, metal or ceramic, because the self-ligating mechanism uses a built-in clip instead of elastic ties. That means less friction, fewer adjustment-day tightening spikes, and generally more comfortable treatment than conventional braces.

Is 20 or 25 too late for braces?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age once gums and jawbone are healthy. Adult treatment may run slightly longer because bone remodels more slowly, but outcomes are equivalent.
Are braces worth it as an adult?
Most adult patients weigh it against confidence, bite function, and long-term oral health, since misaligned teeth are harder to clean and raise decay and gum-disease risk over years, rather than cost alone.

What's the difference between ceramic and metal braces, and which should I choose?
Both use the same self-ligating mechanism and move teeth equally effectively. The difference is purely cosmetic and cost. Metal is the standard option; ceramic is tooth-colored and far less visible, for RM1,500 more per case tier. Neither is clinically "better", it's a visibility-versus-budget choice.
Are clear aligners (Invisalign) better than braces?
Neither is universally better. Braces, from RM5,800, work around the clock without relying on patient discipline, making them well-suited to complex cases. Clear aligners, RM12,000-20,000, are nearly invisible and removable for eating, but need 20-22 hours a day of wear to stay on schedule. The right choice depends on your case complexity, budget, and lifestyle, we'll give you a clinical recommendation at your consultation, not a sales pitch toward whichever costs more.
Is 20 or 25 too late to get braces?
No, you're never too old. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as your gums and jawbone are healthy. Adult treatment can take slightly longer than teenage treatment because bone remodels more slowly, but the results are just as good.
Do braces hurt? What should I expect in the first week?
Some soreness and tooth sensitivity in the first 3-5 days after fitting, and after each adjustment visit, is normal, it's pressure, not damage. Self-ligating braces tend to cause less of this than conventional braces because there's less friction at each adjustment. Soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief in the first few days are usually enough; persistent sharp pain is not normal and should be checked.
Do braces fix teeth permanently?
Braces move teeth into their corrected position, but teeth can drift back over time without a retainer. Wearing your retainer as instructed after debonding is what makes the result permanent, skipping it is the most common reason people see relapse.
Is "6-month braces" a real option, and does Dr MeiLuk by L&M Dental Clinic offer it?
"6-month braces" usually refers to a specific branded fast-track system for minor cosmetic crowding only, we don't offer that specific system. Our self-ligating braces run on a case-by-case timeline, typically 12-24 months, because we're treating for full bite and alignment correction, not just front-tooth cosmetics. A consultation will give you a realistic timeline for your case rather than a marketing number.
What's included in the braces package price?
Your package price covers bracket installation, monthly adjustment visits, elastic bands, and dental wax for the treatment period. X-rays and any extractions needed before treatment starts are quoted separately at your consultation, so there are no mid-treatment surprises.
